QUESTION: How does ‘phubbing’ dealing with digital marketing?
Well, this is a marketing campaign made by Macquarie Dictionary in 2013. That is to show how important is it to have an updated dictionary. As language is always changing, new word born constantly, all the dictionaries have to be up-to-dated. However, how many of the new version dictionaries will be sold?
Therefore, rather than using the commercial type of advertisements, the marketing managers of Macquarie Dictionary made a documentary video by using the topic that would probably attract everyone in worldwide. Why do I say so?
As a success advertisement is always depending on the number of people who watch it. In addition, the way that Macquarie Dictionary’s marketing managers used is showing one of the growing social problems in this 21st century – phubbing! In the other words, using the ‘fashionable’ or famous topic, it is much more easier to draw consumers’ attention on the product. In fact, Macquarie Dictionary was doing quite well in this digital marketing campaign and be one of the best marketing campaigns in 2013.
